For those of you who may have read my blog in it’s previous incarnation (of which you can read in the ‘older posts in ANEKO) will have seen my total support for The Staves. Their voices blend effortlessly in harmony and deliver a sound which is as clear as crystal. So when I woke this morning to see an industry chum of mine had sent me a video performance of their single ‘Icarus‘ featuring Keaton Henson, I was quick to click the link, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Keaton’s fragile and wistful vocal works beautifully side by side with The Staves. ‘Icarus‘ perfectly lens itself to showcasing these great musicians abilities. Not only through their brilliant vocal control in 4 part harmony, but also their ear for arrangement. The addition of Keaton’s (now) trademark Fender Tele sound really works well under the warm acoustic guitar melody. This stunning version builds beautifully, and delivers on all levels to make a song that takes you on a journey, with a structure that ebbs and flows. I can only hope that we get to hear more from this partnership, as it is one of the best I’ve heard from new British talent in a long while. Take a look and see for yourself.
You can catch The Staves supporting Bon Iver at Wembley Arena on the 8th November. Keaton Henson will also be doing a very special performance at the Cinema Museum on the 3rd & 4th October.
